R&D TO DECARBONIZE BUILDING

Holcim is a global leader in innovative and sustainable building solutions, and our innovation engine underpins our efforts to decarbonize building across its lifecycle.

GREEN OPERATIONS

Holcim scientists are also working to scale up green formulation, decarbonizing our cement and concrete mixes with innovative raw materials like calcined clay. We are advancing carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies, and have identified 17 flagship projects around the world. Seven in Europe have been selected for grants by the EU Innovation Fund.

BUILDING BETTER WITH LESS

Our R&D teams are developing new formulas for our flagship concrete and cement ranges, ECOPact and ECOPlanet, and working to scale up the Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) that certify them. We are also advancing technologies to decarbonize construction through smart design and reduced material use, such as 3D concrete printing and carbon prestressed concrete.

CIRCULAR CONSTRUCTION

Our researchers are working to scale up ECOCycle®, our circular technology to recycle construction demolition materials for use in cements and concretes. From deploying innovative material processing technologies to developing the world’s first fully recycled concrete, we are driving circular construction.

MAKING BUILDINGS SUSTAINABLE

Our innovations are making buildings sustainable in use: from Hydromedia permeable concrete bringing nature into cities by enabling urban forests, to Airium mineral foam improving energy efficiency by better insulating buildings.
